Tiers of the Cake

A tasty slice of inspiration...

Hello foodies,

A huge warm welcome to Red Velvet Baking, the blog! I have been baking since I can remember and I have always wanted to share my experiences and tasty flair beyond the walls of my own home. In summer 2011 I launched this little blog. I blog as a celebration of my achievements and dedication to my culinary passion, alongside an overflow of my enthusiasm, with a few added delicious recipe ideas. Pictures and tips galore, sure enough to sink your teeth right into and to get your mouth watering. Delicious beautiful baking can put a smile on anyones face.

Summer 2013 saw me train for a month at Leiths, gaining a distinction in practical cookery and last summer I ran a culinary arts course in the USA, specialising in baking.

I am now back in the UK, writing for my blog from sunny Yorkshire. 2015 is going to be a big year for Red Velvet Baking, so keep posted!

Keep calm, enjoy and most importantly BAKE!

Ingredient Supplies
In order to bake you need plenty of delicious ingredients. Whilst most ingredients are now easily available from your local supermarket (Morrisons, Asda, Waitrose, Sainsburys, Tesco), I also urge you to try independent shops. If you fancy some local milled flour or locally produced eggs - googling around your area will highlight some of the freshest ingredients. I love to source as much as I can locally, giving back to my local farmers keeps the money within the community. Also, why not try growing a few things? We have a blueberry plant at home and it is so rewarding and always tastes AMAZING when I know I helped the beautiful blue fruits to grow!

I challenge you to shop local, shop fresh and shop seasonal :)

Specific / Special Ingredient Supplies
Specific ingredients can be hard to get hold of, especially when you may be following recipes from different countries, where the ingredients are more easily accessible. Also, you may have an idea of something you want, but not even know if it exists!

Edible Decorating Supplies
Local is always better and making your own is clearly the best! If you are struggling for time or feel like you lack the tools or ingredients, buying can save you a lot of hassle. Edible supplies are available internationally from the same online stores that sell essential tools. Other stores include Lakeland and even local supermarkets, as the baking trend has increased an interest in beautiful edible art.

Essential Tools for Decorating
For special occasions and sometimes just for fun I like to experiment with all kinds of decorations. As part of my job (it's fun too!) I trawl all kinds of websites and shops to find floral bun cases, cake stands, pretty sprinkles and sugared treats. I particularly like floral patterns and sugared flowers and this site below has a fantastic range of supplies. This site goes above and beyond your baking needs and covers every theme! You'll find everything you could ever wish for and a million more items that you never realised you needed! What more could you want, get shopping!
